Graphic Design

What is the course about?

A Level Graphic Design offers you the opportunity to be involved in designing, creating and solving problems in order to meet functional and aesthetic needs. You will experiment and work in a variety of materials including both traditional and new technologies. You will be encouraged to learn about and understand different styles and genres of the graphic arts including learning about existing designers and design history.

Course content

  • Coursework projects based on illustration, packaging, print, advertising and computer graphics.

Assessment

  • Internally set themed projects.
  • Personal investigation supported by a written element of 1500-3000 words.
  • Externally set project and controlled assessment days.

Career pathways

Graphic design, illustration, website design, architecture, interior design, theatre design and product design.

Entry criteria

Minimum of five 6-9 grades at GCSE. 

If you fail to meet the entrance requirement for this subject, then a portfolio of work may further support your application.
