Greenshaw High School

Duke of Edinburgh Awards

The aim of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is to help young people to plan and undertake their own programmes of activity, to develop mentally, physically and emotionally. Students must complete four areas of participation; expedition, skill, physical recreation and service.

The expedition involves planning, preparing for and undertaking a hiking and camping expedition in a group of between four and seven people. There is one expedition weekend for the award.

Expedition training runs regularly throughout the year, covering important aspects such as map reading, camp craft and first aid. Service to the community is an important part of the award package as students spend free time on service projects either around the school or in their own communities.

Throughout the award, we work to bring the best out of young people so that they become more motivated, disciplined and balanced; qualities that employers, colleges and universities truly value.

The Bronze Award is offered to our Year 10 students and the Silver Award to our Year 12 students.
