Sunshine in the Surrey Hills

Last weekend, Year 13 students completed their Duke of Edinburgh Silver qualifying hike in the Surrey Hills.
Ms Fingleton and I supported a group of 16 Year 13 students on their expedition in and around the stunning landscape of Box Hill in Surrey. The trip consisted of two nights under canvas and two hikes – on Saturday and Sunday.
Students were energetic and full of confidence when waking up on Saturday before their big hike. Two students even did a pre-dawn 5k jog as a warm-up! However, 18 or so kilometres later, the energy levels were certainly reduced, but students shared a sense of accomplishment after a sunny day's hiking.
That evening, the students played some communal games like rounders and football, before a spot of stargazing that evening in the surprisingly clear Surrey night sky.
We were up again Sunday for our final, shorter, hike before departing not long after midday on Sunday. All in all, it was a really successful weekend, with super respectful and positive students, and some good memories made by all.
