Day 1

The team have all safely arrived in Romania. After a flight and transfer to Brasov, the team settled into their new surroundings, had dinner at a local restaurant and enjoyed watching the World Cup match, despite the small screen and final score! Apart from our one Argentina supporter, who was very pleased!

Today the team set off for a guided tour of Brasov to learn all about its history with our local guides. They visited the Black Church and then did their first hike up to the Brasov ‘Hollywood’ style sign for views across the city. Tonight the team will be shopping for and cooking their own dinner. Let’s see what they have in store.

3 days in….

The team have been cooking up some fantastic meals to set them up for their adventures. Today we visited the Libearty Bear Sanctuary, where over 130 brown bears have been rescued from owners that kept them in tiny cages and exploited them for entertainment. They now live and are cared for in 69 hectares of oak forest. It was emotional hearing the stories of where the bears had come from but reassuring to hear how well they are looked after.

The afternoon was spent visiting Bran ‘Dracula’ castle and preparing for the beginning of their four-day trek into the Carpathian Mountains which will begin bright and early tomorrow morning. The evening was spent playing football and badminton and enjoying dancing and general silliness!

Day 6…

Students have spent three days trekking in the Carpathian Mountains and have shown great resilience and determination. There has been a mixture of sunshine and downpours of heavy rain, but whatever the weather, the views are beautiful. Students have been able to try local foods for breakfast and dinner and have enjoyed their time living in the mountains, although I am sure they are looking forward to tomorrow's shower after the final descent.
