Working together in the Greenshaw Learning Trust

Being part of a wider group of schools enables us to tap into the knowledge of others, as well as share areas that we are confident in showing to others.
I have spent much of this morning walking in and out of classrooms with two colleagues from Brakenhale School, a fellow school in our Greenshaw Learning Trust (known as GLT for short). Being part of a wider group of schools enables us to tap into the knowledge of others, as well as share areas that we are confident in showing to others. On Monday, a teacher from Yate Academy will be joining us, and yesterday one of our Deputy Headteachers took part in a review of another local GLT school. As the Greenshaw Learning Trust grows, I am sure we will continue to gain from this wider network of schools.
What struck me today when walking around all parts of the school, and all year groups, was the sense of studiousness and focus in our classrooms. It was also great to see how our students, at break and lunch, socialise so well and share spaces with consideration of others.
Sometimes I might take for granted the excellence of our students, but seeing the school through the lens of visitors reminded me how well our young people do. And what everybody comments on is how the current building work appears to have zero impact on the day-to-day workings of the school – long may this continue.
Clubs update – all clubs are up and running
Last week we wrote to families in Years 7 and 8 to explain how students can sign up to the range of after-school clubs. We are very keen to develop learning beyond the classroom and the teaching day. We know how these clubs develop new skills, improve confidence, cultivate friendships, discover new interests, and promote leadership qualities. Most are after school, but some before the school day and some at lunch.
Students can view available clubs and sign up to them by following the link below and signing into their own Frog accounts. When they have signed into Frog, students click on the 'clubs' tab at the top and follow the link provided at the bottom of the 'clubs' page. This will take them into the 'clubs' system where they can log in using their own @greenshawhigh.co.uk email address and Frog password.
If you or your youngster have any questions about clubs, or suggestions of anything additional to what we currently run, please email us at clubs@greenshaw.co.uk.
Parking on Grennell Road
While I am able to spend most of every Friday letter celebrating achievements and sharing good news, there is one area of concern. I would ask that all families respect the road markings along Grennell Road. There are both immediate hazard lines and double yellow lines around the school gates, as well as single lines that prohibit parking from 3.00pm to 4.00pm.
Double parking on the road makes it more dangerous for our children crossing. We will be putting up banners on the fence asking for families to follow the restrictions, as outlined in the signs put up by the London Borough of Sutton Council. We would ask that families abide by these restrictions and help us keep our children safe.
Inset day on Friday 3rd October
I hope most families already have this on calendars or family diaries, but just a reminder from me that next Friday we have an inset day. I am sure many students will be saddened by this news, but please reassure them that we will be open for business as usual on Monday 6th October.
