The Achievements of Year 9 and 10 Sports Day

Yesterday’s Sports Day was an absolute celebration of all things sporting.

Well, this has been a week of highlights. Our Year 11 students have completed their GCSE exams, and we celebrated with a fabulous event on Wednesday. This included speeches from staff and three songs from our Year 11 band. Our Year 13 students have also now finished their last A Level exam, and also have a celebration assembly coming up. Proms for both are looming, with tonight seeing our Year 11 students meeting off site with dresses and suits being prepared as I write this on Friday afternoon.

I also got to witness all students in Year 8 completing the ‘Big Dance’ as part of their PE lesson on Tuesday. To see all of Year 8 perform a dance to a medley of football themes (marking the start of the FIFA World Cup) was a joy. Travelling to Tooting and Mitcham FC on coaches and minibuses, while the building work continues on our site, saw our Year 8 pupils fill the astroturf pitch with movement and rhythm.

Year 9 and Year 10 Sports Day

Yesterday’s Sports Day was an absolute celebration of all things sporting. Middle distance events, like the 1,500 metres and 800 metres races, were fully supported despite the warmth of the day. As well as shot putt, javelin and sprint races, there were events for all. The sack race has second place in my favourite events, as every year the egg and spoon race takes first place. The focus of our students when balancing the rubber egg on a plastic spoon, and moving as fast as possible, is a brilliant thing to see.

Congratulations to 10DRH and 9AJR for winning first place in Years 9 and 10 respectively, but also huge congratulations to all pupils in all year groups for helping make it such a joyous day of sporting excellence and high levels of participation. The day ended with over 100 pupils staying behind to dance to the Macarena, as well as the Cha Cha Slide… and then the rain came that hastened everyone’s departure.

Uniform adaptation for warm days – week beginning 22nd June

Our temporary school does have air conditioning in every classroom and office space, so I am sure that our students will be even more keen than usual to rush to every lesson. However, given that it is going to be very warm next week, pupils in Years 7 to 10 may wear Greenshaw PE kit, even on days that they do not have a PE lesson or sports club.

There is no requirement for all pupils to wear PE kit, so if students prefer to continue wearing standard school uniform, that is also acceptable. Please note that we do require students to come to school in Greenshaw PE kit, and not any other variation. I will review this at the end of the week and let families and pupils know.

Please do invite your child to bring a hat (broad brimmed or baseball caps are both acceptable) for their walk to and from school, as well as any playground time. Obviously, all pupils should bring a water bottle every day, but if you could reinforce this with your child, that would be much appreciated.

Year 7 and Year 8 Sports Day, Tuesday 23rd June

There is a separate email about arrangements for Tuesday’s second sports day going to families of children in Year 7 and 8 today. Please keep an eye on your email inbox.

Junior Maths Kangaroo Challenge

This is effectively the second round of the maths challenge and these are the best results we have ever seen. It is also our first gold certificate.

I am absolutely thrilled to share the incredible results from this year’s Junior Kangaroo competition. Our students have performed exceptionally well, and their hard work has truly paid off with an impressive haul of gold, silver, and bronze certificates.

A special shout-out goes to Artin, who achieved a phenomenal score of 123, earning a gold certificate and the Best in School (BiS) title! We also had a very strong showing of silver and bronze awards across the board.

Here is the full breakdown of our student results:
