Thanking Mr Gardner for 38 years of brilliance
I would like to extend a huge thank you to all families for not sending in your children until 9:20 this morning.
I know this disrupts family routines, and can create uncertainty for working parents, but it was really important. In school, we could spend some time with staff preparing for the day, as well as plan assemblies for the students most affected by the loss of Mr Gardner.
We are also aiming to keep the school running as normally as possible over the remainder of the week. It was important to give space and time for those affected staff and students, but it is also most supportive that familiar routines can be returned to. We will not alter timings for the remainder of the school week, as you will see in my item below about our first day of whole school trips, which begin tomorrow.
Celebrating the career of Mr Gardner
Alan Gardner started teaching at Greenshaw all the way back in 1987. Over the 38 years he has been with us, he has influenced so many students, across a huge range of subjects, as well as being Head of Yellow House, Head of Sixth Form and Assistant Headteacher.
He was, put simply, an inspiration. His commitment to students being successful, often beyond what they thought was possible at first, marked him out as a beacon within the teaching profession. He has taught subjects from drama to computer science, from economics to graphic design, and all with huge distinction and complete expertise.
If your family would like to thank him, we have set up a form on our website here: https://www.greenshaw.co.uk/thanking-mr-gardner If you know of students who have been taught by Mr Gardner in the past, then please let them know. We will be sharing these comments of appreciation with Alan’s family and I want them to understand just how significant his influence continues to be.
Curriculum Enhancement Day 1: Tuesday 30th June
Our Curriculum Enhancement Days start tomorrow, and as I said above, these will be unaffected by our later start today. Please check the information slides below for a reminder of where your child/ren needs to be, and what equipment they need to have with them.
I wish all students and staff interesting and safe days out, and look forward to hearing the updates throughout tomorrow.
