Aspiring for Oxford University

This week we were very proud that a group of our highest-achieving Year 12 students visited Queen’s College, Oxford.
Congratulations to all of our students in Year 7 who have sat their English and maths assessments this week, and students in Year 8 and 9 who have also sat a science assessment, alongside the other two. All students took these tests really seriously, and even in the warmest week so far this school year, they stayed entirely focused. It was also interesting to note how high the attendance was for these tests, with only a handful of students in any year group missing school. Thank you for all of your support.
The building work speeds up
If you pass the school you will see that the panels, with windows already integrated, have started to be dropped onto the steel framework. Over the coming weeks much of the exterior of the building will look almost finished. While that is an exciting step, I have reminded pupils that the interior work (plastering, electrics and plumbing) will be happening when each element of the build is watertight.
However, it is exciting to see such rapid progress, and we look forward to taking on the building at some point next school year… although I am cautious about fixing a precise date just yet!
Winners of Entrepreneurial Challenge
Our Year 12 students attended the Entrepreneurship Final Awards this week, fresh off the heels of raising over £740 for St Raphael’s Hospice. I am very proud that they won the award for ‘Most Creative Team’, a testament to their dedication, collaboration, and a willingness to think outside the box.
It was an absolute pleasure to be able to watch the Year 12s collect their rewards – lots of them wore their medals to school the next day! Having a sense of community holds a very special place in Greenshaw's heart, so being part of a collection of many schools, raising £5,174.43 in total was incredible.
Aspiring for Oxford University
This week we were very proud that a group of our highest-achieving Year 12 students visited Queen’s College, Oxford (pictured). The experience provided a valuable insight into university life at Oxford, as well as the academic opportunities available at one of the world’s leading institutions. Students toured the college, were treated to a delicious lunch in the dining hall and chose between attending a taster session on Material Science or Languages and Literature.
Throughout, all of our students engaged thoughtfully with the sessions and with maturity, curiosity, and enthusiasm. Before departing, they had the opportunity to spend some time independently around the colleges and get a feel for the city. We hope the visit has inspired them as they begin to consider their next steps beyond Sixth Form.
Students of the week
Well done to each of the students below for being nominated this week. I look forward to hearing about each of their achievements and the contributions that they have made to the school.
