HALF TERM FIELD TRIP FUN

This has been a brilliant first week back.
Our attendance has been superb, and students really seem to have relished the half term break and returned in a very energised way for their learning. This includes our Year 11 students who have continued their mock exams, and they are applying themselves with real commitment to these.
At the end of the first half term, the excellent attendance of students at Greenshaw was recognised as being in the top 25% of schools, and this week has seen our attendance even higher. I am very proud that so many of our students enjoy being in school, and thank you for your support in ensuring that this happens.
Sixth Form field trip to Wales
Before we look forward into the new term, I would like to extend a huge thank you to Ms Maxwell, Mr Barnes and Miss Albert for giving up five days of their half term to organise a field trip to South Wales. Along with our oldest Geography students, they headed off in a minibus at 6am on the final day of last term, and spent the weekend and then Monday and Tuesday in Port Talbot and Porthcawl.
While the weather in South Wales brought its challenges on some days, the trip enabled the students to collect lots of primary data and get hands on with a range of specialist fieldwork equipment. These opportunities to consolidate classroom theory with practical exploration are a fantastic part of education, and I know that the students get lots out of their time away.
Poppies on sale
With Remembrance Sunday coming this weekend, we have been fundraising this week. Sixth Form students have been offering Royal British Legion poppies, wristbands and lanyards for donations from staff and students. Thank you to our Sixth Form students for organising the sale of poppies. This has been a great example of student leadership in action.
Changes to the timing of the day, Thursday 12th November only
On Thursday 12th November, we are running our Sixth Form Open Evening. To set up for this, we do need additional time, including access to many classrooms. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause for families, but it is unavoidable. We will be opening at the normal time on Friday, and only lose one lesson on Thursday afternoon.
All students will have their first four lessons. They will then return to their tutor bases at 1.20pm before being dismissed no later than 1.30pm.
-
Year 7 and 8: 1.25pm
-
Year 9, 10, 11: 1.30pm
-
Year 12 and 13: 1:15pm
There will be a light offer for students to get lunch and this will be at the end of the day. All students who are entitled to a free school meal can take this during their morning break.
Image consents
We have been reviewing student image use consents across the school and understand that duplication in some areas is causing confusion over what is covered. To address this, we will remove all image use permissions from our systems and ask parents and eligible students to review the new list and choose their preferred options.
For Year 7 and Year 8 students
Consent needs to be given by the parent/carer. This can be done on My Child at School (MCAS) in the Consents section.
For Year 9–13 students
Consent needs to be given by the student. This can be done using the 'Image Consent' button on Frog.
