Year 7 and 8 sports day triumph

Years 7 and 8 students competed in a huge range of events at the David Weir Arena.
The GCSE exams conclude on Tuesday, so our time with Year 11 is nearly at an end. This morning, I played my final game of Pickleball with Year 11 during their core PE lesson. Sadly, I was very much the weaker part of a doubles pairing and accept full responsibility for the defeat that a blameless student and I suffered, against a pairing of a student and Mr Feenan, our Head of Year 11.
With the last day of GCSEs coming on Tuesday, and the final A Level exam on Friday 20th June, I hope that all of our students in those two exam years rest up and get some well-earned relaxation… as well as preparing for the proms for each year group, of course.
Sports Day for Years 7 and 8
We had a great day on Tuesday as the students of Years 7 and 8 competed in a huge range of events at the David Weir Arena. Seeing students run around the competition-standard track, from the 100 metre sprint to the challenge of the 1,500 metres, was an absolute joy. As well as the full range of running, throwing and jumping events, we also found space for a sack race and an egg and spoon race. While neither of these currently hold full Olympic status, I can confirm that they were fully participated in and very much enjoyed by the participants. Congratulations to all who took part, as well as the supporters – a great day of sport and camaraderie.
Year 10 at executive leadership consultancy
As most of us stayed in school yesterday, fifteen of our Year 10 students were on the banks of the River Thames, with a top-end global company. Our students spent a day at Heidrick and Struggles developing their interview and pitching skills, as well as getting to understand the etiquette of boardroom discussion.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff of that firm, and their Chief Executive Officer who gave up time for our students. They described our students as ‘incredibly engaged’ and ‘wonderful’ and said how much they enjoyed their time supporting our young people.
Volunteering week – 16th to 20th June
This year, we are launching a 'Big Help Out' week, focusing on charitable work for our community. Each year group has come up with volunteering activities, whether this is giving up time, using talent or making donations of foodand gifts. As a school, we are looking to support our immediate community. More information about these will come through your children, and also through text and emails over the coming days.
The activities are as follows:
- Year 7: Volunteering time to helping someone within the family or neighbourhood
- Year 8: Sutton FoodBank Collection
- Year 9: Hampers for NICU St Helier/ Royal Marsden Children's ward
- Year 10: Collection of Cat litter and food for The Ginger Cat House Rescue and Community
- Clear Up, removing litter from the streets neighbouring the school
