Greenshaw students head to Oxford

A group of Year 12 students visited Queen’s College at Oxford University this week.
We have had a very focused week in school. Students have continued to appreciate the air conditioning in the new buildings in a warm week and GCSE and A Level exams continue to progress very smoothly.
One of the highlights of my week is meeting our students of the week, as listed below. When I met with them earlier this week, I heard about students that had succeeded despite significant challenges. In the most extreme case, I presented a student with a certificate for resilience. Given that he dislocated his knee on the morning of a school day, went to hospital, and then returned to complete his drama practical exam the same day, I would say this is one of the most impressive examples of resilience I have seen in my many years in school. Fortunately, it is also unusual, and I was delighted to meet the young man and be reassured that he was fully recovered.
Open Evening update - 26th June 2025
In the second half of our summer term, we would normally run an Open Evening for the following year’s intake, those students that are due to start with us in September 2026. With the current building project, we will not need to run a ‘full’ open evening, with a tour around the two temporary buildings, as the students starting Year 6 in September will only spend one full term in these buildings.
I mention this to you as a current parent at Greenshaw as we always have younger siblings join us, following in the footsteps of their older brothers or sisters. If you do have a child currently in Year 5 and are likely to be applying to Greenshaw, please assure them that we will still be running an Open Evening this summer.
We really want primary-aged students to visit our school, meet staff and current students and get a really good sense of what our school is like to attend. We just will not be quite ready to show off our future buildings, although there will be full information about these, including drawings and images of the interior.
Visit to Oxford
As part of our work enabling students to understand the university application process, a group of Year 12 students visited Queen’s College at Oxford University this week. They toured the college, received sessions in science, technology and maths as well as a humanities' session taught. The group also had time to explore the wider parts of the beautiful city of Oxford.
