Greenshaw and the Big Help Out

This time of the school year is always a strange one for our students in Year 11 and Year 13.
Just a few days after they have finished intense periods of study and frequent exams they then step into a period of extended calm. Tonight we will celebrate five years of achievement and success with our Year 11 students at their Prom, and do the same with students from Year 13 next week.
On behalf of our staff, I would like to extend a big thank you to those families who funded any gifts that were bought for colleagues. To see Year 11 come in with boxes of chocolates, flowers and thank you cards on Wednesday really makes the job even more worthwhile.
Volunteering week: 16th - 20th June
We have completed our first whole school volunteering week, known as ‘Greenshaw’s Big Help Out’ and we have had some amazing projects completed this week. Staff and students have been generous with their time and gifts. Our thanks also goes to all families for supporting our first Big Help Out. Here are some of the things that have been accomplished.
In Year 7 students helped friends and families to complete chores, or offered their time and hard work.
In Year 8 our students completed a food bank collection and the kind donations will be dropped to Sutton Foodbank (pictured).
Our students in Year 9 collected food donations and clothing for Fabian’s Pantry at the Royal Marsden. Hospital staff at the McElwain Ward received the generous donations with much appreciation and were utterly overwhelmed by the generosity of our pupils and families.
Our students in Year 10 undertook two activities. They completed a community litter pick around the local neighbourhood, and also collected donations for The Ginger Cat House Rescue which were received with glee from the cats.

Warm weather and school jumpers
A couple of families have contacted me to ask about school jumpers. To clarify, there is no need to wear a school jumper in the hotter days - shirt and tie is absolutely acceptable. However, about half of our pupils were choosing to wear a jumper today, and we do recognise that some pupils wish to wear their jumpers almost regardless of the weather conditions.
The temperature is forecast to drop to ‘normal’ summer temperatures from Monday (between 22 and 25 degrees) and the air conditioning in the new classrooms has been doing sterling work this week.
Wishing all families the very best for a rather hot and sultry weekend, before normal conditions return next week.
