Early signs of the new school developing

This week has seen some of the first building work starting for our new school facilities.
Although from the front of the school the site mainly looks like there is only demolition happening, at the back preparations are already well underway.
The first benefit we will get is a new sports pitch, marked out for basketball, netball and football. This lies where the old English and Maths blocks stood. This week the groundwork has started and I thought you might like to see evidence that there is not only knocking down happening, but positive signs of the redevelopment. This is only the start of the pitch, but all is looking very positive.
The community of Greenshaw
I have delivered assemblies on the theme of ‘community’ throughout the week. This is a value that is very important to us as a school. We always seek to be inclusive and welcoming to all, regardless of anyone’s background and identity and we also model these values with our pupils.
During the last school year, we have collected unused toys and books for a local women’s refuge, designed Christmas cards for residents of local care homes and donated Easter eggs to children’s wards in local hospitals. In doing each of these activities, we are developing what is sometimes called ‘pro-social’ behaviour, actively ensuring that whenever a pupil leaves our school they understand their social responsibility. We also aim to demonstrate how relatively small acts of kindness and generosity can magnify across a whole school community and make a huge difference.
Within the next few weeks we will launch our campaign for food donations for Harvest Festival. More information about this will come out, but over the last few years we have given more and more to local food banks, supporting those who struggle to meet the costs of living. Demonstrating to our young people the importance of these actions definitely helps develop our pupils’ understanding of community, as well as benefitting people in our local area.
Year 7 families – a chance to meet your child’s form tutor
On Wednesday the 24th of September 2025, and then a week later on Wednesday the 1st of October 2025, we will be hosting our annual ‘meet the tutor’ event. Parents and carers can meet the Year 7 Team, Assistant Headteachers and most importantly your child’s tutors.
You will be welcomed by myself and the Year 7 Team, have a talk from the Assistant Headteacher who oversees homework and have the opportunity for a brief catch up with your child’s tutor.
On the 24th of September, the tutors who are present will be are: 7AMK Miss A Monk; 7HMB Mr H Embers; and 7HG Miss J Hughes.
Although Miss S Hasnat and Mr Farooq cannot be here, families in their tutor groups can see the Year 7 Team or Mrs Weale, one of our Assistant Headteachers who has lots of knowledge of both classes.
On Wednesday 1st of October we look forward to welcoming families with children in 7RCR, 7BPR, 7RKR, 7DED and 7ZWQ.
