Brilliant first term in our new buildings

This term has been extraordinary, for all the best reasons

This has been a fantastic half term, and I am so proud of every part of our school. To have finished the spring term in one set of buildings and then start in the summer term in a pair of brand new buildings, is pretty unusual. To have pulled this off without our students reducing their standard of learning or behaviour – one bit – has been extraordinary.

The efforts of our teaching staff, moving from building to building, have been as superb as the reducing. However, I would reserve the very highest praise for our amazing site and ICT teams. They have worked tirelessly, over very long hours, for more than ten weeks now – before the move, during the Easter holidays (which was not a break for them) and on into our new buildings. Without them, much of this term’s achievements literally could not have happened.

Amidst this, our Year 11 and Year 13 students have focused on their exams, completing them with great dedication. I think what all this reminds me is that Greenshaw is a community. It is not just a school, more a collective of people all committed to one another as well as their own success.

So I thank all students and staff for making the near-impossible very manageable. This term has been extraordinary, for all the best reasons.

Summer assessments Years 7-9

When we return, our summer assessments will take place following the half term. These assessments will take place during lessons. In the majority of subjects, students will complete two papers with a selection of multiple choice, short answer and longer response questions. Unlike the GL assessments that students sat earlier this term, the tests will cover what has been taught this year, and the results will be shared with families in pupils’ end of summer term reports.

All assessment information can be found on the students’ FROG page. If you want to see more, ask them to click on their assessment page (tab on the top bar), which includes content lists for each subject.

  • Year 9 - Week commencing 9th June
  • Year 8 - Week commencing 16th June
  • Year 7 - Week commencing 23rd June

Sporting achievement

I’m incredibly proud to share some exciting news that David G in Year 11 has been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Judo Championship in Skopje this year.

David has also been nominated for the European Youth Olympic Festival, with the final selection to be announced in July. This is a huge honour and a testament to the dedication, resilience, and passion he has shown over the years.

David continues to train with everything he has, while also staying committed to his GCSE studies. Reaching this level also comes with financial pressures, so he set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of his preparation. If you can, please consider sharing it:

Competition winner

While the building work continues, we wanted to make the plain white hoarding boards more visually appealing for the local community.

Congratulations to Manasri in Year 8 whose entry into the community board competition was selected as the overall winner. The competition was to design an image or piece of artwork that reflects our Greenshaw community.

The whole school council chose the winner and Manasri will work with our graphics team to finalise the design which will then be added to our site hoardings, making them more visually appealing around the site. Well done, Manasri.

Returning… to Week 2

I wish all students a well-deserved rest over the next week. We welcome our students back on Week 2, so if you could please remind your child to pack the correct books for their Week 2 timetable lessons that would set them up for a great return to school in a week’s time.

Wishing you, and your children, all the very best for an enjoyable week.

Mr N House, Headteacher
