Changing places in A Level geography

This week our A Level geographers visited Brick Lane to explore their 'distant place' as part of the Changing Places unit.
Students carried out emotion mapping along the route and interviewed members of the public to investigate how the area has changed across the decades – from industrial roots and successive migration waves to its modern-day identity as a cultural and creative hotspot.
To truly experience local heritage, all students tried the iconic Brick Lane Beigel Bake, a delicious reminder of the area’s strong Jewish past, adding depth to their understanding of place identity through lived experience.
The trip also coincided perfectly with the stunning 'Yellow Brick Lane' art installation promoting the new Wicked movie – an ideal example of place rebranding and how new meanings are layered onto historic spaces.
