Greenshaw High School

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS ARE GOING BRILLIANTLY

Last night at Greenshaw we held our Open Evening for families interested in joining us next school year.

Although during the building works we were not quite ready to open up the new building with its science labs, library, performing arts spaces and extra dining hall, we still welcomed nearly 2,000 visitors.

I would like to extend a thank you to the many students who helped out. In particular, our Head Students Avaneesh and Nafissa and our brilliant Year 9 speakers Angela and Venoth. All four spoke with clarity and style to our many, many visitors.

Asking for parental feedback

I am very proud of our school, and always enjoy celebrating its many achievements. However, I know that families have an understanding of our school that we can gain insight from and continue to improve.

Our group of schools, the Greenshaw Learning Trust, will all be taking part in a survey that is conducted across other schools in England. This will allow us to both see how Greenshaw families feel, as well as compare this with how parents and carers feel in other secondary schools across England.

Please click on the link here to complete the survey. There will be a second follow-up activity, with more open questions after half term, following this first activity.

Clubs at Greenshaw

I am very particularly proud of the fantastic range of clubs on offer this term. We have 56 clubs on offer this half term, led by 44 different members of staff. From sport, music and creative activities to our exciting new Greenshaw Cinematic Orchestra, there really is something for everyone. The Greenshaw Cinematic Orchestra is open to any budding musician who would like the opportunity to perform as part of a large group alongside their peers. Mr Jones has already planned a number of exciting performance opportunities, and we look forward to seeing the orchestra develop throughout the year.

The enthusiasm of our students has been wonderful to see, and we are delighted with the strong take-up of clubs this term. Clubs give students the opportunity to try something new, develop their skills, make new friends and discover interests beyond the classroom.

Full details of the clubs, including what is on offer and when they take place, can be found on your child’s Frog page, where students can sign up for their chosen clubs through SOCS. And if there is a club your child would like to see us offer, Miss Webb would be very keen to hear from you – please contact her at school.

A message about Safeguarding from Mrs Wallace

My name is Mrs Wallace and I am the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) here at Greenshaw.  We have a team of Deputy DSLs and a Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead, as well as an Online Safety Lead. We also have a team of specialist PSHE teachers who teach students about safeguarding. We will try to keep you up to date regarding local issues and any support available, and you’ll find lots of helpful information on our Greenshaw High School website under the ‘care and support’ tab.

Support for parents: We work closely with our local Education Wellbeing Service who offer some excellent webinars and workshops to help support parents with their child's wellbeing and mental health. You can sign up to their free webinars here. They cover topics such as teen sleep; coping with exams; social media and gaming; conflict and communication; Autism.

Advance notice – food collection coming up!

I will explain more in next week’s letter, but as a school we will be supporting the City Harvest Festival Drive. In the last week of term, we will be collecting non-perishable items such as tinned proteins (beans, tuna) and fruits, dried carbohydrates like rice and pasta, as well as breakfast items and snacks. If you are able to donate, and will be doing your family shop this weekend, I thought this would give you forewarning.
