It was attended by a large number of students who had just left, many heading to university within the next week. There were also former staff members, some retired, and others who have moved to other schools. I am very confident that the evening of reminiscences, music and images did justice to a brilliant servant of our school.

Wet weather

On Tuesday we had a very wet day. While students normally enter school from 8:20am, I know that many arrive earlier, some to meet with their friends and some because a family or carer might have dropped them off on their way to work. 

On days when it is raining, we will always open the dining halls as soon as students start to appear at school. While we do not have all of our staff on site to supervise pupils in the classrooms or playgrounds, we will open two of the school gates and bring pupils into the halls where they are supervised… and most importantly, we can keep out of the wet. I hope this is helpful for families to know that we do have a plan for wet weather days, and that looking after our students is always our first priority.

Parking along Grennell Road

On the note of looking after our students, the parking of families and carers along the school’s road is becoming a real challenge. On Tuesday, a rainy day, the road was gridlocked for about ten minutes. Cars were finding it difficult to come up and down the road, drivers were increasingly frustrated and sounding their horns, and crossing the road became very hazardous for our students. 

This happened because a large number of cars were parked on Grennell Road. There are double yellow lines, which should never be parked on. There are ‘zig zag’ lines next to school entrances, which should never be parked on. The single yellow lines restrict parking during set times, which include 15:00–16:00. This is the after-school pick up time, and should not be parked on.

I would ask that all families do not park outside of the school during pick up times. This parking makes the road inaccessible, and makes crossing it very hazardous compared to a road with clear lines of sight for our students. Parking on single lines, double lines or zig zag lines is dangerous.

Joining us in Year 7 and Year 12

Just a reminder of the welcome events coming up for our families and students joining the school in Year 7, and for ALL families and students entering Year 12. 

Year 12: Information Evening

Tuesday 15th September, 5.30pm-7.00pm, Greenshaw High School

This evening is for all students and families in Year 12, regardless of whether they are new to Greenshaw or not. We will explain the expectations that come with studying far fewer subjects, but at greater depth. The Sixth Form team will also lay out the shape of the two years of the course and where the key milestones are.

Year 7: Meet the Tutor Evenings

Thursday 17th September and Thursday 24th September, 4.30pm-6.00pm, Greenshaw High School

There will be a welcome from myself and Mr Clarke, Head of Year 7, and an opportunity for you to meet your child’s form tutor. There will also be a chance for you to meet other families of our Year 7 students. The availability of the tutors is as follows.
