WELCOME BACK TO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

Welcome to all of our families this September. I love this time of year, full of opportunities and new starts. The first two days were full of students seeing one another and staff, many for the first time in six weeks, and there was lots of excitement.

By the end of today, all students have received their paper timetables, although as many of you will know, our students could see the timings of lessons and allocations of teachers on Frog some days ago. For students in Years 7, 9, 11 and 12 they have had school photographs taken and there will be separate communication about purchasing these in the next week or so.

Most importantly, all of our students are fully prepared for their first full day of teaching on Monday. We run a timetable that changes every other week, and we have said to our students that we start back on Monday in Week 1. If you are able to remind your child of that, it would be much appreciated.

Summer exam results from Greenshaw

You may have come across news stories or our social media accounts in August that celebrated some brilliant outcomes for last year’s Year 11 and Year 13. The destinations that our students go on to continue to be fantastic, including studying Economics at Cambridge University, Medicine at Imperial College London, and increasingly popular degree apprenticeships with companies such as Bloomberg.

At GCSE, 85% of all our grades were at grade 4 or above (that’s the equivalent of a grade C for us older ones) and nearly 40% of all grades were at grade 7 or above (the same as an A grade). So, as ever, huge congratulations to our talented students and hard-working staff.

Joining us in Year 7 and Year 12

Over the coming weeks there will be welcome events for our families and students joining the school in Year 7, and for ALL families and students entering Year 12.

Year 12: Tuesday 15th September – Information Evening (4.00-6.00pm)

This evening is for all students and families in Year 12, regardless of whether they are new to Greenshaw or not. We will explain the expectations that come with studying far fewer subjects, but at greater depth. The Sixth Form team will also lay out the shape of the two years of the course and where the key milestones are.

Year 7: Thursday 17th September & Thursday 24th September – Meet the Tutor Evenings (4.30-5.30pm)

There will be a welcome from myself and Mr Clarke, Head of Year 7, and then there will be an opportunity for you to meet your child’s form tutor. There will also be a chance for you to meet other families of our Year 7 students. More information will follow separately regarding these dates.

Looking forward to a very big year

We think very carefully about how we start the term. I give staff a good allocation of time to be fully prepared after the ‘off time’ many have deserved in the summer. Similarly, we have used Thursday and Friday to ensure that all students are properly ready for learning this year with what might appear a ‘soft start’ this week, but actually is designed to ensure that students head into their learning next week fully prepared to be successful.

In summer term 2027 it looks highly likely that we will start to use our brand-new school, making this an incredibly exciting time for all of us here at Greenshaw. Before then, I look forward to another very successful year and seeing lots of brilliant achievements.

And, if you do have a moment over the weekend, please remind your young person (or people) that we are starting with Week 1 on the timetable next week. I think we’ve mentioned it a few times in school to our students this week, but better safe than sorry!

All the best.

Mr N House, Headteacher
