Another club added alongside enrichment days next half term

At the end of a very busy term there are a number of items to let you know about. I have tried to keep these brief so you can skim through what is most relevant to you.

School uniform – 15% off for the next few days

For those of you thinking ahead, we have been informed by our uniform supplier, SWI, that they have a 15% discount in place, available until Tuesday 26th May.

School clubs

Our offer of after school clubs now runs at close to 50, and the latest addition will be arriving after half term. We have had a number of game playing clubs (like chess and Dungeons and Dragons) and students have requested a further one. There has been growing interest in playing mahjong so we have ordered four sets of tiles, dice and playing racks.

I’d like to extend a big thank you to Mr Aoanan in the geography department for supporting this, and indeed to all staff who support the wide range of activities we have. Full details can be found on our website here

Enrichment days – only 38 days to go!

When we get to the last week of June, we have our first Enrichment Day on Tuesday 30th June and then each of the following two Tuesdays, 7th July and 14th July. For students in Year 11 and Year 13 they will have completed their courses, and students in Year 12 will be on work experience, but for all students in Years 7-10 there is lots going on.

I know that you have all received several letters about this, so I thought I’d share with you a video message that each of our students will see on Frog. Feel free to take a look yourself, by clicking on the link for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 or Year 10. Thanks to Harry, Mason and Alana for explaining what will happen to our students… and you, their carers and families.

End of year summative assessments

After half term, your child will sit assessments in each of their subjects during the week commencing 8th June for Year 9 and the cycle commencing 15th June for Year 7 and 8. The purpose of these is to assess their learning over the course of the year and will allow us to see progress against our end of year expectations. These papers will consist of multiple choice questions, short response questions and extended response questions.  These papers will be taken during normal timetabled lessons in that week. Test scores will be shared with you as part of the end of year reports. Information on these assessments has been  shared with the students on their Assessment Page on FROG.

Support while school is closed

At Greenshaw we work closely with a variety of agencies including the London Borough of Sutton, volunteer groups and the NHS. Please be aware that our website has many signposts to support agencies in the section ‘Care & Support’ as needed.

Our Help for the Holidays leaflet here also provides lots of useful contact information and family activities that are taking place over the half term.

Hot weather

The forecast for next week, half term week, is very hot for typical UK temperatures. It was great to see a small group of students wearing school shorts today, and a handful with hats in the playground. I will look at the forecast for the first week back at the end of half term and may write to families before we return to advise on any necessary measures. That is, of course, assuming that when we return it is not pouring with rain…

Returning… to Week 2

So, after all of that, I wish all students a well-deserved rest over the next week. We welcome our students back on Week 2, so if you could, please remind your child to pack the correct books for their Week 2 timetable lessons that would set them up for a great return to school in a week’s time.

Wishing you, and your children, all the very best for an enjoyable (and sunny) week.

Mr N House, Headteacher
