Harvet Festival food collection

This is the week when we will be collecting food for London’s City Harvest campaign.
At the end of a four day week (for the students at least!) I want to extend a huge thank you to five of our students. At last night’s Open Evening, our Head Students – Faith and Prian – delivered excellent welcoming speeches, before handing over to Bethany (in Year 8), Ella and Robert (both in Year 7).
These five students spoke to over 1,000 guests last night with complete confidence, explaining about their time at Greenshaw and what they had enjoyed. I would also like to thank all the students who supported the various subject rooms, talking about their learning and explaining what they had covered so far. Every year at Open Evening it is our students, speaking with enthusiasm and real interest, that our visitors are most impressed by. I hope the many students who helped out last night are enjoying a day of rest today.
Harvest Festival – we are collecting on Thursday 9th October
This is the week when we will be collecting food for London’s City Harvest campaign. We are asking as many families that are able to, to support this important event by donating any item(s) they are able to. This can include any non-perishable items, such as:
- Canned proteins (tuna, beans, chilli, stew)
- Canned fruits and vegetables (fruit in juice, vegetables, tomato products)
- Grains and carbohydrates (rice, pasta, instant mashed potatoes)
- Breakfast items (oats, cereals, non-refrigerated milk)
- Snacks (granola bars, nuts or dried fruit)
On Thursday 9th October we will be collecting all donations at each school gate. Sixth Form volunteers will be at every gate with crates and all donations are gratefully received. Thank you in advance for anything you might be able to share.
Did you know that Greenshaw is on Strictly Come Dancing this winter?
When I started at Greenshaw, we had a young man called Harry in Year 8. As time passed, Harry grew up, and when he grew up he became very, very fast. As he finished school, he won the 100 and 200 metre races at the World Junior Athletics Championships in Beijing. He went on to take part in the World Championships, winning bronze in Berlin, and won gold medals in the 4x100 metre relay team at the European Championships in 2014, 2018 and 2022.
We are very proud of Harry’s achievements, and are always delighted when he visits school as he did two years ago, presenting awards at our Sports Day.
When he retired from athletics, Harry took on a number of media roles, including two years ago in the BBC television show Gladiators. So you might know ‘our Harry’ as Nitro from Gladiators. But you might also know our Harry as the celebrity Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, performing on this season’s series of Strictly Come Dancing. Good luck to Harry, from all of us at Greenshaw, we know you will continue to be amazing.
Obviously, I would not interfere in any voting or democratic process, so you will just have to guess where my vote will be going this Saturday night… and on every other episode of Strictly up until the final.
