Back to school

A smooth transition into the new academic year.
I hope you are all well, and that the last few days of your child’s summer holiday go well. For those of you returning, welcome back. The information below was shared at the end of last term, but I know it can be helpful to have a reminder of the key start dates and times for the new term.
I would like to extend an especially warm welcome to those of you joining Greenshaw for the first time, particularly new students and families in Years 7 and 12. I hope the information below helps to make for a smooth transition to Greenshaw next week.
Back to school dates – a reminder
Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd September: School staff return to school for two INSET days. No students are required to attend school, other than for prearranged meetings.
Wednesday 3rd September: Induction days for Year 7 and Year 12 students only. Again, students in Years 7 to 10 or 13 are not required to attend school but there may be prearranged meetings.
Thursday 4th September: This is a partial day for all years (see table below for details). This allows us to share timetables for the coming school year. Students will have an assembly with me and their Head of Year, meet their tutors, receive their timetables and get set for the new term.
Friday 5th September: All year groups are in for full days from Friday onwards. As normal, school will open from 8:20am and normal lessons will run all day.
School photograph day
School photograph day will be held on Thursday 4th September for students in Year 7, 9, 11 and 12. Please ensure that your child arrives at school in full school uniform with no jewellery, other than the permitted ear studs and no makeup.
The company taking the photographs, Pret-a-Portrait, will send sitting ID cards of the photos to the school to be distributed to you via your child. Orders are then made directly via the Pret-a-Portrait website and not the school. All contact details will be provided.
Uniform and equipment
Hopefully you have been able to update your child’s school uniform if needed, but if you are planning to buy any new items, please check our website here before making any purchases. This will ensure that all new uniform fits our requirements and should reduce any uncertainty.
It is important that you are aware that Sutton Children Services has a free school uniform shop to support families in Sutton with children aged 4-18 years. Previous Greenshaw families have donated used uniforms and this is available to all families: there are no criteria to use this service and anyone with a child who needs Greenshaw school uniform can contact them, regardless of income.
Please contact them via email suttoncommunityuniform@sutton.gov.uk to book an appointment. Here is also a link to their website: https://www.suttonhealthandcare.nhs.uk/uniform-shop and their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/suttonhealthvisiting
I will update families about our summer holiday events and achievements in the first Friday letter of the new term on Friday 5th September. In the meantime, I am really looking forward to meeting all of our students across next week for the excitement of a new school year.
