Greenshaw High School

Medics in the making

Students took part in workshops at Queen Mary University.

This term students from Years 9, 10 11 and 12 took part in workshops at Queen Mary University as part of the Bridge the Gap programme.

Bridge the Gap allows students to visit Queen Mary and take part in hands-on activities designed to give them a taste of studying medicine and dentistry. Students involved return each year from Year 9 until Year 13, building on their knowledge and experience and increasing their chances of being offered a place on these highly competitive courses. Throughout the programme, our students are mentored by current School of Medicine and Dentistry students, who visit the school normally during the autumn term again to build our students' understanding and knowledge.

During the Year 9 event on 20th May, Christabel was presented with a Kindle by Professor Kim Piper, Head of Admissions for Medicine and Dentistry. Christabel was the winner of the competition held by Bridging the Gap to design their logo. Her logo (shown left) will be seen worldwide on the QM website, as well as day to day on all programme correspondence. Will she become a designer or medic?
