Greenshaw High School

The LGBT+ Group

Greenshaw High School’s vision is to embrace people of all sexualities and gender identities, by cultivating a spirit of acceptance throughout the school. We create opportunities to celebrate LGBT+ Pride, such as hosting bake sales and running whole-school assemblies. There are also posters up within each department to highlight LGBT+ figures who have excelled in their fields. Rainbow wristbands are available for all students who wish to show their support.

Greenshaw High School has an active LGBT+ group. The group meets every Thursday at break time in RS4. All students and staff are welcome to come along and talk about LGBT+ ideas and issues and show their support. The group is well attended by students and staff, including Mr House on a regular basis. Our aim is to ensure that all students feel welcome and safe in our school and that they have the space and opportunity to share any concerns or questions about their identities with supportive adults.

All school staff have received training from Free2B Alliance, on how to promote inclusivity. Whilst we feel that students can talk to any member of staff that they feel comfortable talking to, there are four named adults in the school that students can approach if they have questions about their sexuality and gender identity. These are: Mrs Roberts, Ms Wright and Mr Higgins.

Greenshaw High School is proud to have been awarded the LGBT+ Benchmark award from the Free2B Alliance. For more details about the award, please click here.
