In January, 60 Year 13 A level Biology students travelled down to Juniper Hall field centre near Dorking to carry out two days of ecology field work.

Despite the rain and mist, the students were good humoured and worked extremely hard to obtain some excellent data. Crusty lichens were drawn, holly leaves examined and small mammals were trapped, studied and released. As well as reinforcing theoretical sessions such as woodland management and biodiversity, certain tasks contributed to the students’ A2 assessed coursework. These were completed to a very high standard and in many cases scored full marks.

The students worked extremely hard and were fantastic ambassadors for the school. Thank you to the students and also to those staff – Ms Tyson, Mrs Carran, Mr Mirtschin and Mr Rolaston – who supported the students and were willing to give up a Saturday to do so.
