Successful expedition for bronze hikers
Year 11 students travelled to the New Forest to complete their practice expedition.
Over the weekend 12th September, 15 Year 11 students travelled to the New Forest to complete their practice expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh bronze award.
On the first day, they were trained in navigation, map reading, camp craft and basic cooking skills. On the second day, they walked 15km across the forest following a pre-planned route relying on their compasses to ensure they didn't go astray. All students completed the walk, although some enjoyed a scenic detour along the way, but soon found their way back on track. Other highlights of the weekend were learning about star constellations and the obligatory night-time man hunt.
Well done to everyone – and good luck for your assessed expedition in April. Many thanks to Miss Pierce for her help and support.
