Year 9 Stock Market Challenge

Year 9 became dealers for the day...

The challenge involved students working in groups of four, buying and selling shares and currency over a virtual trading week, just as traders do in dealing rooms every day.

The activity was fast paced and enabled students to analyse information under pressure and work as a team. Each team started off with £15,000 to invest in nine companies and the US dollar. They reacted to articles in five daily newspapers, radio bulletins and news reports. The team with the highest portfolio at the end of trading were declared the winners.

Miss Mountford, Director of Careers and Enterprise, said: “Feedback from students showed that they really enjoyed the fast moving pace of the activity and it continues to be one of the most engaging and dynamic enterprise events. It is designed to develop key skills in leadership, communication, organisation, initiative and resilience, which will support our students in the next phase of their education or working lives.

"Our thanks to Miss Fingleton and Mrs Ernstzen for all their hard work with the co-ordination and delivery of the challenge on the day.”
