First ever sewing bee

Students rose to the challenge.

Year 7 and 8 students recently took part in the first Greenshaw sewing bee. Their challenge was to make a pair of pyjama bottoms during the hours of a school day. Each student found some aspect of the construction challenging. However, by the end of the sewing bee, they all had a fantastic product to show. They learnt knew skills, including how to use a commercial pattern, sew overlocking seams and insert elastic.

Textiles teacher, Miss Parsons, said: “It was difficult to pick a winner as each student had tried incredibly hard. The winner of the Year 7 competition was Leanne, for her professionally constructed pockets. In Year 8 Tessa was the winner for getting her elastic flat in its casing and for producing a professional looking product. Congratulations to all the students who took part.”
