Admissions
Transfer from Primary School to Secondary School

The process begins at the beginning of the autumn term when your child begins Year 6 at primary school.

Greenshaw is part of the Pan London co-ordinated admissions scheme for secondary admissions.  Parents must complete their Home Local Authority Common Application Form (CAF) and return it to their Home Local Authority by the closing date. Sutton’s CAF is available in Sutton’s Transfer from Primary to Secondary School Booklet or on-line at www.sutton.gov.uk/education/admissions.

The annual intake at Greenshaw High School is 244.

If you wish to apply for a place at Greenshaw you must name the school as one of your preferences on the CAF.

Places are allocated as follows :

 A.       60 places are allocated by reference to ability, irrespective of where you live or any other criterion.   The places will be decided on merit following the results of a combined verbal and non-verbal reasoning test taken at the school in November. If you wish your child to take this test you should complete the Greenshaw High School Supplementary Form in the Transfer to High School information pack and return it to the School.  You should only consider entering your child for the test if she/he is of above average ability.

If you do not want your child to take the test you should not complete the supplementary form.

B.        The other places at Greenshaw are allocated by considering the following four factors (as described on the application form) :

1st -     Looked After Children

2nd       Where there are professionally supported medical reasons or exceptional social reasons.

3rd   -   If your child will have an elder brother or sister at Greenshaw at the time of the younger child's admission.
(NB : sibling is defined as brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, step brother or sister, or the child of the parent/carer’s partner, and in every case, who is living as part of the same family unit at the same address, Monday to Friday. Where a sibling is in Years 11 or 12 at the time of application they will normally be deemed as being in the school at the time of admission, unless the parent has specifically expressed that they will not be continuing the following year. If your child will have a sibling at one of your preferred schools in September 2009, it is important that you include the sibling’s details on the application form to ensure that, if applicable, sibling priority is given. You should not name any child who is not a sibling, nor any child who attends a different school to the school named as preference).

4th -    The remaining places will be offered on the basis of proximity to Greenshaw, measured in a straight line from your home address.

Open Evening information and admission criteria are published in the Sutton Admission Booklet. Our prospectus is available at the Open Evening held on Wednesday 29th September 6.30pm to 9.15pm.
