Facilities

The school's modern buildings house appropriate facilities for all subjects. Specialist areas include science laboratories, two business studies rooms, sports hall, gymnasium, a music centre, art studios, learning resources centre, spacious hall and stage with excellent provision for lighting and sound, and Sixth Form common room and study area. The learning resources centre has been redeveloped recently. It is a popular place at break and lunchtime, when pupils read, borrow books, do homework and use the computers. There are also specialist workshops for technology. A recently completed £1.5 million building programme provides the School with a new drama studio, a ninth science laboratory, two further computer rooms and a new suite of classrooms.

The school has a well-equipped media resources centre housing audio-visual equipment, reprographic facilities and video-cameras. A video mixing and editing suite is available for use by staff and senior students.

A significant amount of new computer hardware has been installed in the last twelve months, including a large number of interactive whiteboards. The school has an extensive curriculum computer network of nearly 210 PCs for pupil use. The computers are used for both separate ICT lessons and as a tool to help the teaching of all subjects. Pupils are encouraged to use the facilities both during lessons and out of lesson-time.

Internet facilities continue to be updated. Each computer on the curriculum network is connected to the Internet and each has access to a wide variety of CD ROM resources. All students are given their own e-mail address.

The curriculum network includes large computer suites for information technology, mathematics, English, modern languages, technology and business studies. There are also curriculum network computers in the learning resources centre and sixth form resources centre. Smaller clusters of networked computers are in history, geography and art.

There are other clusters of computers for specialist use in music, technology and media studies. These computers are equipped with specialist hardware and software relevant to the particular subject needs.
