Sixth Formers enter the world of business publishing

Sixteen Greenshaw Sixth Form students were given a glimpse into the fascinating world of publishing last week on a visit to Reed Business Information in Sutton.

Julie Lever, Charity and Development Executive at Reed and Vice Chairperson of the Greenshaw Career Academy, kindly organised a whistle-stop tour of the organisation.

The students were welcomed by Managing Director, Jane Burgess who gave the students an introduction to Reed. This was swiftly followed by a light hearted look at health and safety by Geoff Hodgkinson, Health and Safety Advisor and an insight into marketing with Group Marketing Director, Sophy Ashworth. They were then given a demonstration on the basics of editorial design by Group Art and Production Editor, Steve Gale and a look at blogging through the eyes of Editorial Development Director, Karl Schneider. Head of HR Operations, Tricia Winch then explained the best way for the students to use communication to develop their careers.

They were joined for lunch by members of Reed staff, who had kindly volunteered to be business mentors to some of our Career Academy students.
