Facilities
The school's modern buildings house appropriate facilities for all subjects. Specialist areas include science laboratories, two business studies rooms, sports hall, gymnasium, a music centre, art studios, photographic dark room learning resources centre, spacious hall and stage with excellent provision for lighting and sound and Sixth Form common room and study area. The learning resources centre has been redeveloped recently. It is a popular place at break and lunchtime, when pupils read, borrow books, do extended work and use the computers. There are also specialist workshops for technology a new drama studio, a tenth science laboratory, nine computer rooms and a new suite of classrooms.
The school has a well-equipped media resources centre housing audio-visual equipment, reprographic facilities and video-cameras. A video mixing and editing suite is available for use by staff and senior students.
A significant amount of new computer hardware has been installed in the last twelve months, including interactive whiteboards in most classrooms. The school has an extensive curriculum computer network of over 750 PCs for pupil use. The computers are used for both separate ICT lessons and as a tool to help the teaching of all subjects. Pupils are encouraged to use the facilities both during lessons and out of lesson-time.
Internet facilities continue to be updated. Each computer on the curriculum network is connected to the Internet and each has access to a wide variety of CD ROM resources. All students are given their own e-mail address and acc
The curriculum network includes large computer suites for information technology, mathematics, english, modern languages, technology, media studies and business studies. There are also curriculum network computers in the learning resources centre and sixth form resources centre. Clusters of laptops are in history, english, technology, modern languages and the resources centre.
