Welcome to the Greenshaw High School History Department.
If you want to know why the world is the way it is, then this is the place to be! We are passionate about history and are dedicated to helping our students understand some of the most important questions facing human kind.
What we study:
KS3
- Everyday Life: When did our lives change most in Britain?
- Movement and Settlement: Where, why and how have people moved around the world?
- British unity and identity: How was the UK formed? Does the UK still exist?
- Power and democracy: How and why the power of the monarch rose and fell; How democracy and civil rights were won and in what circumstances they can be destroyed
- Empires: Are they a bad thing?
- Conflict and cooperation: Why have people risked their lives in wars? Can war have any point?

- Protest, law and order in the twentieth century
- Crime and Punishment
- The impact of war on London c1914-50 (coursework)

The department also runs an exciting program of trips and external speakers including:
- Year 7 – Windsor Castle
- Year 9 – First World War battlefields
- Year 10 to 13 – Auschwitz
- Year 13 – National Army Museum
Miss Weatherhead is Head of Department, other members of the team are Mrs Conroy; Mr Kidd; Miss Mole, Mr Payne and Mrs Pearse.
