Geography
Welcome to the Greenshaw High School Geography Department.
All students study Geography in Years 7 to 9, following a range of themes from local geography of Sutton and South East England, through to systematic studies of the UK in Year 7. This broadens to looking at the UK within a European context in Year 8 and finally world studies, focussing on a more and less developed country (Japan and Kenya respectively).
At KS3, a series of cluster units are also managed by the department:
- Year 7 – Tribal Cultures (including a visit to the Horniman Museum)
- Year 8 – Olympic Site and Development.
In Years 10 and 11 students study (AQA) GCSE including a residential field studies course to the Isle of Wight
The Sixth Form offers courses at both AS and A2 level following an AQA examination course and are also involved in residential field studies in South wales and Cornwall.
All of these courses have proved to be very popular. Geography rooms are equipped with modern technology and teaching resources, as well as being very pupil friendly with bright and colourful displays of work.
For more detailed information and downloads to help with classwork, extended work or coursework, please visit the Managed Learning Environment (MLE).
The Geography Department is also involved in many extra-curricular activities such as the annual Greenshaw Fishing Competition, the ski trip and Bude adventure holiday.
Mr A McMillan is the Head of the Geography Department.
Geography teachers are: Mrs Vardy, Ms Beaton and Miss Chisholm.
