Business Studies
Welcome to the Business Studies and Law Department.
The department hopes to develop the subject specific skills of the pupils, including key skills, as well as providing an informative and stimulating curriculum.
In Years 10 and 11, Business Studies is offered at GCSE. A trip To Cadburyland, Birmingham to learn about marketing is included for those pupils who like chocolate! As part of the Extended Day activities, Coursework Club runs four days a week after school.
Business Studies is a popular option in Years 12 and 13, where the subject is delivered at AS and A2 level. This course includes trips to Cadburyland and the Ford Transit factory in Southampton. Visiting speakers arranged this year range from small, local business people, to representatives from US insurance giant AIG. Students who follow Business Studies are also eligible to participate in the Career Academy Scheme (See the Career Academy page).
The department is hoping to have a Business Studies input into the Year 8 curriculum, that is to be revised next year. In Year 9, all students experience two Enterprise Days, when they develop entrepreneurial skills in teams.
Law is taught at AS and A2 level in Years 12 and 13. The regular trips for this course are to Sutton Magistrates Court, the Old Bailey, and a Revision Conference in London. Visiting speakers arranged for the class include magistrates, a barrister, and a juror.
The use of ICT is important in the delivery of the curriculum, and the department is well resourced, having a class computer suite and interactive whiteboards.
Staff in the department are Mr Learner, Ms E Hannigan and Mrs Sone.
