Art
Welcome to the Greenshaw High School Art Department.
Art is delivered through the school by a dedicated team of specialists. The skills of each member of the department allow us to offer a broad and exciting curriculum from KS3 to KS5.
We aim develop and nurture pupils' understanding and enjoyment of Art through carefully planned projects which support the development of artistic skills and processes. Teaching and Learning is a key focus of the department. The subject is very popular, with a good uptake at GCSE and A level. Results at GCSE have been particularly impressive and we believe that all students can achieve in the subject.
In recent years we have introduced AS and A2 photography, lens and light based media. This has proved so popular we are now running an after school voluntary GCSE. We also have a darkroom and solid ICT facilities.
Beyond the classroom we aim to extend pupil's experiences of art through extra-curricular activities. Trips are offered which are targeted drawing days in galleries such as the Photographer’s Gallery, National Gallery and the Tate Modern, where students can access the work of relevant artists and apply it to their own ideas. We also offer the opportunity for pupils to experience residential art trips to Cornwall for KS4 and KS5 and Paris for KS3 pupils.
In addition, we offer after school Art Club which is well attended. Pupils are given the opportunity to develop their artistic skills further, with a broad range of materials.
The display of students’ work is very important to us. We hold an annual art show, as well as displaying work around the school. Work by Greenshaw students is annually displayed at Scola, and in the school section of the Saatchi Gallery website.
There are also galleries of art and photography work on the image gallery.
Our A level Art and Photography students recently had the opportunity to practice their life drawing skills at a series of specialist classes held within school. The sessions have proved to be very rewarding for the students, who produced high quality work that they will be submitting within their portfolio work for their university entrance interviews.
