Alternative Provision
From Challenge to Success (C2S) and Achievements for Learning (A4L)
From Challenge to Success and Achievements for Learning are alternative KS4 provisions that have clearly defined intentions which relate to personal and academic outcomes for identified students. The courses provide a supportive environment, which are tailored to maximise the full potential of each student. The main aims are that students achieve success and are motivated to continue with their education at post 16, via vocational training or employment. Our aims and department ethos fully support Greenshaw’s vision, “strive for success” and “building lives for the future”.
Throughout the two years on the C2S or A4L course there are many opportunities for our students to take part in accredited or certified courses including The Princes Trust xl Award, ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness , basic first aid, Junior Sports Leaders Award, volunteering, Basic Food Hygiene. Furthermore students have the opportunity to experience a variety of vocational training courses and/or taster sessions at local colleges and training providers, offering alternative qualifications such as NVQs and AQA Unit Awards. The department has strong links with Carshalton College, South Thames College (Merton Campus) and NESCOT, where the students can experience a range of trade and professional courses including motor vehicle/bike mechanics, electrical installations, construction, health and beauty, hairdressing, childcare, sport and leisure and the uniformed services. Other training providers and organisations such as Sutton District Training, SILC, Community Inspirations, Ecolocal, The Loft, Sutton Volunteer Centre.
Each student on the course leaves Year 11 with an Achievement Folder where evidence of participation in off-site provision is certified and external certifications are documented. This serves as a valuable self-assessment and evaluation tool for students and a supportive tool at college or job interview.
