Introduction

Achievement lunch

At Greenshaw we recognise and value all student achievements. This includes success in academic subjects, extra curricular activities, sporting activities or activities at home.

Every day, in every lesson, teachers will acknowledge the students who have made most effort in their lesson by awarding merits. Once a student has gained three merits, they will receive a commendation. Commendations can also be awarded for consistent effort over a period of time or for a particularly outstanding piece of work. When a student has received certain numbers of commendations, they will receive a letter home from their Head of House, the Deputy Head or the Headteacher.

Merits are also added to house points, which can also be awarded to students for good behaviour, charitable work and sporting achievements. Each term the house points are added up across each of the tutor groups and the winning tutor group receives free pizza which is delivered to their classroom for lunch - which is very much appreciated by the students!

There is also an Achievement Lunch for every year group at some time through the year. Students who have received the highest grades in their progress reports are invited to have a delicious lunch served to them by their teachers and the Headteacher.

The culmination of these achievements over the year are recognised at the Greenshaw Awards Evening for each of our curriculum groups: the Lower School Awards Evening (for Years 7, 8 and 9), the KS4 Awards Evening (for Years 10 s1nd 11) and the Sixth Form Awards Evening. Subject awards are nominated by the teachers for students who have either performed exceptionally well or worked particularly hard in their subject. Diplomas of Achievement are awarded to students who have gained the highest grades throughout the year in their progress reports. The events are memorable occasions for both students and their parents.
